Susan Marie Hernandez (nee Piteo), 71, passed away on August 15, 2020 after a short battle with Uterine Cancer and a Pulmonary Embolism. Complications arising from the two caused her to grow weaker and no longer unable to fight even though the only thought on her mind was battling so she could get back to her loving family.

Born in Jersey City On November 3, 1948, Susan grew up in West New York, NJ. She attended Public School #5 and Memorial High School. Sadly, she was predeceased by her mother, Marie Piteo, when she was only 15 years old. Her cousin Evelyn and Peter Rovetto took her in and treated her like their own child in addition to the five children they already had. Upon graduating from high school, Susan began working in Hudson City Savings Bank in North Bergen, NJ, where she worked for over 30 years until retiring as a Branch Manager. During this time she also decided to further her education and was taking courses in Saint Peter’s University. Whether at work or in life, she always greeted everyone with a smile on her face and treated everyone with the utmost respect and care. In her spare time, she found joy in reading, crafts, playing cards, and relishing in the pride she had for her three grandsons. Her oldest grandson, Cris, graduated college in May 2020, at her alma mater, Saint Peter’s University, and she was beaming with pride and joy.

Susan dedicated her life to her family and it is a huge loss to everyone she has touched. The world was truly a better place with her in it. Her selfless nature, kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness and sweet gestures went far beyond. As the matriarch of our family, Susan was and always will be our superwoman and the strongest woman we know. Always facing the many obstacles she has had in her life with absolute grace and managing to maintain her beautiful composition through it all. Her loss is an immensely difficult one for all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her mom, Marie Piteo, her second mom after her mother passed, Evelyn Rovetto, the only father she has ever known, Peter Rovetto, her sisters Teresa Rovetto and Donna Rovetto, and her brother Peter Rovetto.

Devoted mother of Lisa Hernandez, Loving grandmother to Cris Hernandez, Brandon Gomez and Jaxon Gomez, Adoring sister of Jennie Turkowsky, brother in law Charlie Turkowsky, brother Joseph Rovetto, sister in law Debbie Rovetto, nieces Deana Rovetto and Jennie Turkowsky, nephews Mark Turkowsky, Eric Turkowsky, Jason Rovetto, Michael Rovetto and Steven Rovetto, as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Even during times of social distancing, anyone who has suffered a loss deserves love and support more than ever before. Let the family know you care by leaving treasured memories, thoughts and prayers in our Online Guestbook.
