"Betty" (nee Schwerzler), age 85, life long resident of West New York, passed away peacefully on Friday the 2nd of June 2017. After a year and a half of illness, her body could not keep up with her fighting spirit.
Born on July 16, 1931 to the late Ethel Miller and Albert Schwerzler, Betty graduated from Holy Family High School and continued on to work as an administrator at ADT in Manhattan, until starting a family. In a career shift, she took a position as a sales associate for Montgomery Ward, where she worked until her retirement.
Betty loved card games, crossword puzzles, and reading books. She also enjoyed playing trivia and spending time with family and friends. She tirelessly worked for her beloved St. Mary's Church. She was an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, a member of the Rosary Society, and president of the Parish Council.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years Donald A. Heck, retired West New York Police Chief and United States Marine; her loving daughter Donna Gherardi and her husband Dan of Oradell, NJ; her devoted grandchildren Danielle and Donny Gherardi; her dog Jazz.
